About Wenonah, New Jersey

Wenonah is a borough in Gloucester County, established in 1883 by an act of the Legislature. The township was carved from portions of Deptford Township and was named for the mother of Hiawatha in the book ‘The Song of Hiawatha’ by Wadsworth Longfellow. Wenonah has the distinction of being a dry town, meaning that alcohol cannot be sold. Since its inception, Wenonah has predominantly been a residential area, and currently has a very close-knit community which organizes many activities and events every season and holiday.
