About Sergeantsville, New Jersey

Located in New Jersey’s Hunterdown County, particularly that of the Delaware Township, Sergeantsville is a historic unincorporated community. In 1700, the place was first settled by a certain Mr. Thatcher. The community was named after the American Revolutionary War soldier, Charles Sergeant. It was in 1827 when the place was officially created, a time when the community was favored to establish its very own post office. It was known back then as Skunktown since it served as the center for marketing skunk pelts. It became the home to William Cotton, a popular playwright, caricaturist, and portrait painter.
