When it comes to luxury full-size SUVs, you can’t do better than the Porsche Cayenne. And for 2023, the Cayenne is as refined as ever. The 2023 Cayenne comes decked out with luxurious features and a slick, sporty body that exudes class and refinement You are going to love the fact that the 2023 Cayenne is spacious and offers plenty of space for luggage and rear-seat passengers. Despite being the largest SUV in Porsche’s stable, the Cayenne is still as sporty as ever. It delivers a thrilling ride and the aerodynamic build ensures that handling is superb. The 2023 BNW X5M is also a superbly-built variant of the X5. Large and boxy, it suffers from certain handling issues as well shall see. Let us review these two vehicles and tell you which one you should go for this year.
Design & Style
When it comes to design and styling the 2023 Porsche Cayenne features the iconic styling cues of Porsche. This includes the sloping roofline, curved headlights, and much more. The sporty stance of the Cayenne bellies the fact that this vehicle has a sporty heritage and is a Porsche after all. The interior of the Cayenne is equally well done with luxurious features all over the cabin. Premium materials are used throughout the vehicle and the instrument panel is ergonomic, making it easy to operate while driving the Cayenne. When it comes to the BMW X5M, you also get an equally well-styled car although the large kidney-shaped grill on the 2023 X5M seems to get bigger and bigger with every iteration of this vehicle. Still, there is a lot to love about the BMW, and the interior is equally well done The boxy shape of the exterior design might however put off many people not just because of its appearance but also the fact that it affects the aerodynamic properties of the vehicle.
Technology & Safety
Both the 2023 BMW X5M and the 2023 Porsche Cayenne come with a 12.0-inch infotainment system that can handle both voice and touch commands. Porsche offers smartphone connectivity via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay but the BMW only offers Apple CarPlay. Both vehicles have a trove of safety features including lane departure warnings and much more. However, the real difference comes in how intuitive some of these tech features are. With the Porsche Cayenne, the infotainment system is intuitively designed and easy to use. The graphics are large and clear. The system is also very responsive. This is not the case with the BMW X5M where we found the infotainment system to be rather sluggish, especially when using voice commands.
Performance
Both the 2023 BMW X5M and the 2023 Porsche Cayenne come with a variety of engine rims which makes it easier for buyers to find the right fit for them. Regardless of which engine trim you go for with the Cayenne, you get a powerful performance with a smooth ride dynamic. The ride is refined, yet sporty, which gives the driver the best of both worlds. With the BMW X5M, you get a vehicle that leans more towards sporty than a luxury. The suspension was rather stiff which is great for racing around the track but rather uncomfortable anywhere else.
The Bottom Line
When it comes to these two vehicles, one may think that they are at par when it comes to performance and design. However, the Porsche Cayenne is an all-rounded vehicle that is great on the track but can also handle everyday driving with ease and comfort. The M5X is more for people who enjoy tearing around a track at high speed but it struggles on the highway and delivers a rather stiff ride. For this reason, the 2023 Porsche Cayenne offers a lot more value for money.
