2022 Porsche Taycan vs. 2022 Audi R8

The 2022 Porsche Taycan mesmerizes with its advanced technology, exotic appearance and otherworldly performance. But is all this enough to beat the 2022 Audi R8, a supercar which comes with track level handling, a razor sharp appearance and V10 acceleration?

Design & Style

The Audi R8 is a middle engine vehicle which is partly derived from the Lamborghini Huracan. It can be purchased as a roadster or coupe and is distinct for its sharp and angular external edges. It comes in two packages which are Dynamic and Sport. Those that purchase Dynamic will get carbon ceramic based brakes along with racing shelled seats and unique wheel designs.  The Sport package includes a sport style exhaust featuring darkened brake tips with multiple drive modes.

The Porsche Taycan is long, sleek and curvy. It can seat up to five passengers who will enjoy the bucket seats which can be powered adjusted and heated or cooled to their liking. It sits on nineteen inch wheels. While most automobiles only have a trunk in back, the Porsche Taycan actually has a small one in front, which is about 3 cubic feet in size, with a back trunk that is 12 cubic feet.

Technology & Safety

A car as fast as the Porsche Taycan should be safe to operate and it doesn’t disappoint, with features such as night vision, a camera with surround view, emergency automated brakes, airbags and parking sensors. Luxuries within its cabin include eleven inch touch displays, panoramic glassed roof, seats covered in leather that is truffle brown, climate control and a Burmester audio system.

The Audi R8 is extremely light on active safety functions, which is a travesty given its six figure price tag. While it does have parking sensors for the front and rear, it doesn’t offer emergency automated brakes at all. Luxuries within its cabin include nappa style leather upholstery, navigation system, digitized instrument cluster and climate control.

Performance

Those that purchase the Audi R8 all wheeled drive will get a V10 engine that is capable of generating 602 horsepower with the ability to accelerate from zero to sixty with a maximum 204 mph top speed. Those that purchase the Porsche Taycan Turbo S will get a 750 horsepower engine that can accelerate it from zero to sixty in 2.6 seconds with a maximum 162 mph to speed.

The Bottom Line

While the Audi has the advantage in top speed, the Porsche Taycan has superior horsepower, zero to sixty acceleration and can seat five whereas the R8 can only seat two. And this combined with the R8’s lack of emergency automated brakes and other modern safety features despite costing a fortune is a serious flaw which makes the Porsche Taycan the winner.
