2022 Porsche Cayenne vs. 2022 Acura MDX

Many consider the 2022 Porsche Cayenne to be the emperor of SUVs. Its modernized interior, array of personalization options and unmatched power and comfort are too much for the competition.  But how does it stack up to the 2022 Acura MDX, a sport utility vehicle coveted for its spacious cabin, array of safety features and excellent handling?

Design & Style

The Acura MDX has a shield like grille in front with slender LEDs and cut and snip lines which accentuate most of its rounded exterior. It has large proportions which result in an extended nose and wheel base of three inches which gives the frame a muscular appearance that tapers near the back. Within the cabin, passengers will be presented with a slim horizontal dashboard and broad centralized display. Pushbuttons are readily accessible which will activate the transmission and climate control, and the wood is open pore with leather that feels good to sit on. The Porsche Cayenne sports full length taillights with the fast rear type roofline that accentuates its outer body. The cabin is minimalistic when compared to older generations, but is also more spacious, with a 12.3 inch touchscreen that is centralized and capable of handling most of the needed functions.

Technology & Safety

The Porsche Cayenne is outfitted with all the latest safety tech, such as cruise and lane control, a camera with surround view, emergency automatic brakes, park assist, night vision and blind area monitoring. Luxuries within the cabin include power leather seats that can be adjusted eight ways, satellite radio, and an audio system with ten speakers, sunroof, and Apple CarPlay. The Acura MDX is equipped with many of the safety features found in the Cayenne, including emergency automatic brakes, assistance with traffic jams and the ability to automatically monitor the attention of the driver. Luxuries within its cabin include a sunroof that is panoramic, audio system with nine speakers, Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, wireless charging for smartphones and keyless tart.

Performance

The Acura MDX is equipped with a V6, 3.5 liter engine that can generate 290 horsepower with 267 pounds of torque, which enables it to cruise from zero to sixty in just 7 seconds. The Porsche Cayenne is also equipped with a V6 engine that that is turbocharged and capable of generating 335 horsepower which can accelerate from zero to sixty in just 5.6 seconds.

The Bottom Line

The Acura MDX does lots of things right; but Porsche does them better. The MDX has a third row which is too tight, its gas mileage is lackluster and the Cayenne has better performance, making it the winner.
