2021 Porsche Taycan vs. 2021 Mercedes-AMG E63

The 2021 Porsche Taycan is a truly remarkable vehicle. Its immaculate cabin, superb handling and otherworldly performance make it a car that is coveted by many. But can it beat the 2021 Mercedes-AMG E63, a car with rocket level acceleration that pampers its passengers like a five star resort?

Design & Style

The E63 is derived from the E Class but is far more powerful. It utilizes all-wheel drive with a special driving mode called Drift which fully routes the vehicle’s engine power into the back wheels for a unique handling. The grille has been revised to have twelve vertical stats with a bigger Mercedes insignia, and the body sits on twenty inch wheels with upgraded lights and aerodynamic curves.

The Porsche Taycan is largely electric in operation, and is the first EV to provide architecture capable of generating eight hundred volts. Its battery capacity has been improved with a charging system that can better preserve it while reducing the power loss. Buyers will also have additional color options for the exterior and interior and the body sits on nineteen inch wheels with an air suspension that is adaptive.

Technology & Safety

Safety is essential in every automobile, but especially one that moves as fast as the Porsche Taycan. As such, this vehicle is outfitted with all the latest safety technology, which includes lane management, blind area monitoring, stop and go, night vision and emergency automated brakes. Luxuries within its cabin consist of climate control which covers four zones, front seats that provide back massages, a steering wheel that is heated and Apple CarPlay.

The Mercedes-AMG E63 is equipped with most of the same features found in the Taycan, which includes frontal impact alerts, emergency automated brakes, lane management with departure notifications and cruise control which is adaptive. Luxuries within its cabin include an audio system from Burmester, Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, climate control, powered and ventilated seats and dual 12 inch displays.

Performance

Mercedes-Benz is famous for the performance of its vehicles and the E63 reinforces this reputation. Those that purchase the E63 S will get a V8, dual turbo engine that can generate 603 horsepower that can accelerate from zero to sixty in 2.8 seconds. Those that purchase the Porsche Taycan Turbo S will get a 750 horsepower engine that can accelerate from zero to sixty in 3.4 seconds.

The Bottom Line

While both these German cars are evenly matched when it comes to safety and luxury features, the Mercedes-AMG E63 is mired by tire sidewalls which are too thin and which magnify strong impacts and its Drift Mode is difficult to use, making the Taycan the winner.
