The 2021 Porsche Panamera is dynamite on wheels. Its spectacular looks, host of interior luxuries and superb handling and performance rank it far above its peers. But how does it compare to the 2021 Audi R8, a true super car which many regard as one of the finest in the world due to its incredible V10 performance and sleek appearance?
Design & Style
The Audi R8 uses a mid-engine with a wide and low frame. The exterior is menacing, whereas the interior is opulent in every respect. The cabin is positioned forward with a shortened hood that flows backward to provide outstanding frontal vision. The side intakes resemble blades and are responsible for transferring air into the car’s rear brakes and engine. The cabin comes in multiple leather colors and some surfaces are covered in high end carbon fiber. The Porsche Panamera sports a low roof with a curvy exterior that is aerodynamically sound. It comes in multiple body kits and paint hues which mean it can be customized to your exact specifications. The cabin is dominated by comfortable seats and a centralized console that has buttons for every need. Surfaces are covered in aluminum, leather and authentic wood.
Technology & Safety
The Porsche Panamera is well equipped to protect its passengers from almost every hazard. It does this with a navigation system, emergency automatic brakes, numerous airbags and cruise and lane control. It also has night vision, and perks within the cabin include climate control, powered and ventilated seats, and premium audio with multiple speakers, contrast stitching and a dashboard covered in leather. The Audi R8 is equipped with many of the same safety countermeasures found in the Porsche, except emergency automatic brakes. It does have airbags and parking sensors, and luxuries within its cabin include Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, heated Alcantara seats, digital instrument cluster and magnetic dampers.
Performance
The Audi R8 is lighting fast. Those that want the absolute best performance possible will want to purchase the 602 horsepower V10, which can accelerate from zero to sixty in about 3.6 seconds while reaching a 204 mile per hour maximum top speed. The Porsche Panamera Turbo S is outfitted with a V8, twin turbo engine that can generate 620 horsepower with the ability to blaze from zero to sixty in about 2.9 seconds.
The Bottom Line
Both of these super cars carry a six figure price tag and are designed for the ultra-wealthy. That being said, the Audi R8 has a number of serious shortcomings. It lacks automatic emergency brakes and its cargo space is practically nonexistent, plus the Porsche Panamera has better acceleration times making it the winner.
