2021 Porsche 911 Turbo vs. 2021 McLaren GT

The 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo is widely regarded as being the company’s flagship vehicle and is one of the fastest cars on the planet. Its super hero level acceleration, precise handling, and world class luxury makes it a car that was always destined for greatness. But what happens when it goes head to head with the 2021 McLaren GT, a car which has created shockwaves in the automotive industry due to its incredible power, roomy cargo hold and opulent cabin?

Design & Style

The McLaren GT is a 2 seater which prioritizes power and performance above all else. Passengers will sit on nappa leather and each surface of the cabin is covered in high end materials such as carbon fiber. Audio is provided from a Bowers & Wilkins audio system that consists of twelve speakers.

The Porsche 911 Turbo looks amazing no matter which version you purchase. Both the cabriolet and coupe offer powerful engines with a cabin fit for royalty. Surround sound is provided courtesy of a Bose audio system and passengers will sit on relaxing seats which are powered and capable of being adjusted eighteen different ways.

Technology & Safety

Porsche is renowned for the safety of its vehicles and the 911 Turbo is no exception. Unlike other super cars which are often devoid of driver assistance tech, the 911 offers these features in earnest, and consists of things such as automated emergency brakes, lane departure notifications and cruise control which is adaptive. Luxuries within its cabin include Apple CarPlay, Wi-Fi, climate control, and a digital gauge display which can be reconfigured to your liking.

The McLaren GT, like many super cars, sacrifices safety for performance and power. It doesn’t make a lot of sense, but that’s how it is. Despite the six figure price tag, it has no blind area monitoring, no frontal impact warnings and no cruise control which is adaptive. The only safety feature that drivers get aside from the airbags and carbon ceramic brakes is a backup camera. Luxuries within the cabin include a seven inch display, satellite radio from SiriusXM and Bluetooth support.

Performance

This is what the McLaren GT was designed for. It is equipped with a V8, 4 liter engine that is dual turbocharged and capable of generating a mammoth 615 horsepower with 465 pounds of torque, which enables it to blast from zero to sixty in 3.1 seconds. The Porsche 911 Turbo S answers with a flat six, 3.7 liter dual turbocharged engine that can generate 640 horsepower, that enables it to accelerate from zero to sixty in 2.2 seconds.

The Bottom Line

While the McLaren GT is impressive, its main weakness is its lack of driver assistance features, which the Porsche has in abundance. This combined with the 911’s superior performance and passenger capacity makes it the winner.
