The Chevrolet Corvette 2017 Grand Sport is a highly regarded vehicle that uses the C7 redesign, with its V-8 LT1 engine. The Porsche 2017 911 Carrera S, however, it a potent vehicle in its own right, with its turbocharged, flat six engine and increased torque and horsepower. Both cars are gorgeous and powerful, but which is better? Continue reading to find out.
Design & Style
The 2017 Corvette now uses an aluminum frame rather a steel one. Its design also incorporates brakes which are ceramic carbon with a slip differential that is controlled electronically. All its electronic gizmos however have increased its weight by almost a hundred pounds. Both vehicles are fabulous in terms of appearance.
Technology & Safety
The 2017 Porsche 911 has tech which is very similar to what you’d find in a Le Mans or Formula 1 race car, meaning it’s extremely advanced and safe to drive. It is lighter than the Corvette, but tests show the Corvette does have a shorter stop, along with an outstanding weight for power ratio. Those who have tested the Corvette have also described its steering system as being exceptionally accurate, but the Porsche has a far superior throttle response.
Performance
In terms of raw power, the Corvette surpasses the Porsche, but the Porsche is faster and more agile. After all, it has a weight bias of sixty-three percent, and with its rapid shifting transmission it can launch hard and provide the driver with acceleration that is uninterrupted. The manual shift provide by the Corvette isn’t bad, but not on the same level. This means the 2017 Porsche 911 can go from zero to sixty in about 3.1 seconds, while it takes the Chevy Corvette 3.9 seconds to do the same thing. The Porsche uses an engine which is flat six and which tests show can generate about twenty more horsepower than the Corvette, as well as 43 more pounds of torque.
The Bottom Line
The price difference between these vehicles is substantial, to say the least. While the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport can be had for just over $66,000, the 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera costs a whopping $104,000, meaning it is a sports car reserved for the very wealthy. The Corvette, by contrast, will be seen by many as a “middle class” sports car, and due to its price of “only” $66,000 will be ignored by those who want the absolute best, and don’t mind paying an extra $44,000 for it.
